Canada temporarily suspends operations at its Embassy in South Sudan.

The Canadian government says consular services for Canadians in South Sudan will now be provided by the Canadian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Emergency consular assistance will continue to be available through Canada’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa.

However, passport and citizenship services for South Sudan will remain under the Canadian High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya.

The changes took effect on July 13, 2026.

Meanwhile, Canada has introduced temporary border measures linked to the Ebola outbreak affecting South Sudan, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Travellers arriving in Canada who have been in any of the three countries within the previous 21 days will be assessed and may be required to comply with public-health measures, including mandatory quarantine.

The Canadian government says the health risk of Ebola to Canadians remains low.

The temporary border measures are scheduled to remain in place until August 29, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

Canada has also suspended certain immigration documents for residents of the affected countries until August 28.

The Canadian government says the measures are intended to reduce the risk of Ebola entering and spreading in Canada.
