EU Ambassador visits Yei River County to assess recovery, dev. projects

The European Union Ambassador to South Sudan, Per Enarsson, has visited Yei River County of Central Equatoria state to assess key recovery and development projects in the area.

During the visit on Tuesday, Ambassador Enarsson met with Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo, who briefed him on the security situation, describing it as stable.

The delegation, which included officials from the International Organization for Migration and other development partners, was received by county authorities and traditional leaders.

The Ambassador toured the University of Yei, where he received updates on efforts to reopen the institution. Commissioner Malimbo said the Central Equatoria State Government is committed to restoring the university to expand access to higher education and support social and economic recovery.

The delegation also inspected the Yei Electricity Power Station, where rehabilitation works are ongoing to restore electricity supply to the county.

Commissioner Malimbo said reliable power is critical for public services, business growth and economic recovery, adding that authorities are working to complete remaining mechanical repairs before the station resumes operations.

The visit is part of the European Union’s continued engagement with local authorities and development partners to support infrastructure rehabilitation and recovery initiatives in Yei River County.
