Gen. Aleu pays tribute to fallen heroes on Martyrs’ Day

The Minister of Interior and a veteran of South Sudan’s liberation struggle, General Aleu Ayieny, has paid tribute to the country’s fallen heroes and heroines, describing them as the driving force behind the nation’s independence.

In a Martyrs’ Day message shared on the ministry’s official media platforms, General Aleu said the sacrifices made by the country’s courageous sons and daughters laid the foundation for South Sudan’s liberation and continue to inspire generations to uphold the values for which they fought.

The minister urged South Sudanese to honor the legacy of those who died during the struggle by embracing peace, fostering national unity, safeguarding security, and working collectively toward building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

General Aleu emphasized that the country’s freedom was won at a great cost and called on citizens to ensure that the sacrifices of the martyrs are reflected in efforts to preserve stability and promote development.

“Today, we pay tribute to the courageous sons and daughters of South Sudan who gave their lives for our freedom, justice, and independence. Their sacrifice laid the foundation for the liberation of our nation and continues to inspire generations.

“As we commemorate Martyrs’ Day, let us honor their legacy by strengthening peace, promoting unity, safeguarding security, and working together to build a stronger, more prosperous Republic of South Sudan.

“Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their legacy lives on. May our martyrs rest in eternal peace,” General Aleu said.

Martyrs’ Day is observed annually on 30th July to honor those who lost their lives in South Sudan’s long struggle for self-determination and independence. The day also serves as a reminder of the responsibility of citizens and leaders alike to uphold the ideals for which the country’s heroes and heroines made the ultimate sacrifice.
