Government urges regional, international partners to support peaceful elections

The government has called on regional and international partners to help maintain peace as the country prepares for elections in December 2026.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the government reiterated its commitment to implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement and preparing for the elections.

The call follows an appeal by the chiefs of mission of Germany, Japan, Norway and the United States for urgent political dialogue and an end to violence as a means of political competition.

The diplomats made the call on Wednesday after meeting Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior.

In a joint statement, the diplomats urged the immediate start of what they described as authentic inter-party dialogue.

They also called on the country’s leaders to use public revenue to provide essential services and strengthen accountability.

The diplomats said improved security, accountability and respect for the rule of law would help create an environment for private investment and economic growth.

The government said it values continued support from regional and international partners in advancing peace and the electoral process.

It urged all stakeholders to help create a peaceful and conducive environment ahead of the polls.

“The Government calls on all stakeholders, regional and international partners, to help maintain a peaceful and conducive environment as the country moves towards elections,” the statement read in part.

“The Government will continue to engage partners through established diplomatic channels, with mutual respect and due regard for national ownership,” the statement said.
