Interior Minister pays tribute to late Senior Police Director General Atem Aruei 

The Minister of Interior, Aleu Ayieny Aleu, has paid tribute to the late Senior Police Director, Major General Atem Aruei De Mabior, a nephew of the late liberation hero Dr. John Garang de Mabior.

According to the Ministry of Interior, General Atem died on July 21st at the age of 62 at a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, following a short illness.

General Atem was the Director of the Criminal Investigation and Crimes Prevention Department, having previously served as the head of the Anti-Vehicle Theft Unit in the same department.

General Atem was the son of Aruei de Mabior, the elder brother of Dr. Garang de Mabior.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, Minister Aleu expressed his deepest condolences over the general’s passing, describing it as a profound loss to the nation.

“The passing of Maj. Gen. Atem Aruei De Mabior is a profound loss to our nation. He served South Sudan with dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment,” Aleu said in a statement issued on Monday morning.

The minister said the late general’s contributions to the country’s security and stability will always be remembered and appreciated.

Aleu also extended his sympathies to the bereaved family.

“May the Almighty God grant the late Maj. Gen. Atem Aruei De Mabior eternal rest. May his soul rest in everlasting peace, and may Heaven receive his noble soul,” he added.

Senior Police Director Major General Atem Aruei De Mabior was laid to rest over the weekend in Juba.
