Juba court continues hearing in case of three sisters found dead at hotel in Juba

The High Court in Juba is continuing to examine investigative findings into the deaths of three sisters who were found dead inside a room at Freedom Hotel in March 2025.

The case has attracted significant public attention, as the court considers evidence and testimony aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The sisters, daughters of Chol Arol, were identified as Achol Waat Arol, 21, Achol Chol Arol, 19, and Abeny Chol Arol, 15.

They were found dead inside their hotel room on March 28, 2025.

Police initially investigated the possibility that the sisters had been exposed to a toxic substance or gas, including the possibility that it may have entered the room through the air-conditioning system.

However, the suspected exposure remains part of the investigation, and the court has not yet made a final determination on the cause of death or any criminal responsibility.

Court proceedings began on May 12, 2026, and have continued as the court examines statements, evidence and investigative reports related to the case.

The court held its latest hearing on Thursday, August 6, at the Juba District Court.

The investigator assigned to the case also appeared before the court, where further information on the investigation is expected to be presented.

The court has adjourned the case to August 14, 2026, at 2 p.m., when proceedings are expected to continue.

The victims’ family and members of the public are closely following the case as the court works to establish what led to the deaths.

The final determination of the cause of death and any possible criminal responsibility will depend on the evidence, expert reports and testimony presented before the court.
