South Sudan Revenue Authority joins African tax leaders in Cairo

The South Sudan Revenue Authority has joined tax administrators from across Africa in Cairo, Egypt, for the 2026 annual meetings of the African Tax Administration Forum, ATAF.

The meetings, running from November 1 to 5, are bringing together African tax officials and development partners to discuss ways of strengthening tax systems, increasing domestic revenue collection and reducing dependence on external financing.

The South Sudanese delegation is led by Deputy Commissioner General Solomon Ariik Manyok, representing the Commissioner General.

According to a statement published on the Authority’s official Facebook page, Mr. Manyok said the Commissioner General had encouraged the delegation to actively participate in the meetings, exchange knowledge and experiences, and explore partnerships to support South Sudan’s tax reform agenda.

The meeting is being held under the theme, “The Revenue Imperative: Africa’s Path to Financing Its Own Development.”

As part of the programme, Mr. Manyok participated in the ATAF Council meeting and a panel discussion on domestic revenue mobilisation in fragile and conflict-affected states.

The discussions focused on simplifying tax systems in countries with limited administrative capacity, strengthening revenue collection and ensuring international support responds to the needs of conflict-affected environments.

Participants also shared lessons from countries that have rebuilt their revenue systems following crises and discussed ATAF’s engagement with member states operating in challenging conditions.

The South Sudan Revenue Authority says its participation is aimed at gaining practical insights, exchanging experiences and identifying approaches to strengthen the country’s revenue system and support national development priorities.
