Vote more women into leadership in upcoming elections, Juba resident urges

A Juba resident, Joseph Vadal Sarru, is calling on South Sudanese voters to consider electing more women to leadership positions in the scheduled upcoming general elections.

In a letter submitted to Eye Radio, Sarru said years of male-dominated leadership had failed to deliver meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.

“We are fed up of men government for many years without benefit at all, only suffering, always all the time,” Sarru wrote.

He cited unpaid salaries, limited basic services and economic hardship among the challenges facing South Sudanese families.

Sarru said the difficulties facing citizens should make the upcoming elections a serious national responsibility, urging voters to choose leaders who can address their economic and social concerns.

He also called for greater community participation in governance and proposed what he described as “self-administrative areas,” arguing that communities should have greater responsibility for managing their own development.

Sarru further raised concerns about workers struggling to support their families, including difficulties with rent, food and delayed salaries.

“The only kind of government to achieve is the Ladies government or the SELF Administrative Area government,” he wrote.

South Sudan is scheduled to hold general elections on December 22, 2026, with preparations for the polls continuing.

Sarru urged citizens to take part in the electoral process and make their choices based on what they believe will improve the welfare and future of the country.
