Western Equatoria Sends 39 Students to Aweil on Envoy Adut Scholarship
Thirty-nine students from Western Equatoria State are heading to Aweil to pursue secondary education under the Adut Salva Kiir Scholarship Programme.
The group comprises 21 girls and 18 boys, mainly selected from vulnerable families based on their academic performance.
The state government said priority was given to students who completed Primary Eight with Distinction or Credit, particularly those unable to afford secondary education.
Kubako Emmanuel, Deputy Director for Examination and Assessment, said poor road conditions forced the state to use air transport for some of the beneficiaries.
“Because of our road situation in Western Equatoria, it was not possible for us to take the students by road. We therefore decided to airlift them with the support of His Excellency.”
The students will study from Senior One to Senior Four under the scholarship programme.
Some beneficiaries said the scholarship would give them an opportunity to pursue their ambitions, including careers in medicine, politics and business.
Residents of Yambio have welcomed the initiative, saying it could help vulnerable children continue their education.
