Yei River County is preparing to launch a medicine distribution campaign targeting blindness and elephantiasis, with more than 387,000 people expected to benefit.

Health authorities say about 310,000 people are expected to receive the medicines, while 1,500 community volunteers will support the distribution across the county, according to a Tuesday post on the County Commissioner’s Official Facebook Page

The volunteers will undergo training and orientation before being deployed to communities.

Michael Salah from the National Ministry of Health said the volunteers would work at village level to help ensure the medicines reach the targeted population.

The campaign is expected to begin next week after the completion of the volunteers’ orientation.

Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo welcomed the preparations and called for continued cooperation among health officials, media organizations and other stakeholders to raise public awareness and encourage community participation.

The preparatory meeting brought together health officials, local authorities, media representatives and other stakeholders from Yei River County.

The campaign aims to prevent blindness and elephantiasis through medicine distribution, community awareness and increased engagement at the grassroots level.
